**The CD74HC4067 is a 16-channel analog multiplexer and demultiplexer: four select lines connect one of sixteen analog lines to a common pin, with 70 Ω typical on-resistance at 4.5 V and break-before-make switching.** It lets one ADC pin read sixteen sensors in turn. It is the larger cousin of the 8-channel [CD74HC4051](https://roboticsengineering.in/components/cd74hc4051-analog-multiplexer/). Figures are from the Texas Instruments CD74HCx4067 datasheet SCHS209D.

## Key specifications

| Channels | 16 |
| --- | --- |
| HC supply | 2–6 V |
| HCT supply | 4.5–5.5 V |
| RON | 70 Ω typical (4.5 V), 60 Ω (6 V) |
| Switching | break-before-make, 6 ns typical (4.5 V) |
| Temperature | −55 to 125 °C |
| Packages | SOIC-24, SSOP-24, TSSOP-24 |

## What the datasheet promises

| Item | Datasheet value |
| --- | --- |
| Channels | 16, bidirectional: any analog line can be an input or an output |
| Supply, HC types | 2 V to 6 V |
| Supply, HCT types | 4.5 V to 5.5 V, with direct LSTTL input logic compatibility |
| On-resistance | 70 Ω typical at VCC = 4.5 V; 60 Ω typical at 6 V |
| Switching | Break-before-make; 6 ns typical at 4.5 V |
| Enable | When high, disables all switches to their off state |
| Analog range | Analog voltages across the supply voltage range |
| Temperature | −55 to 125 °C |
| Packages | SOIC-24, SSOP-24 and TSSOP-24 |

Because the on-resistance is tens of ohms, it works best into a high-impedance input such as an ADC, not a heavy load. Select lines come from the microcontroller, so one multiplexer costs four GPIO pins plus the enable and the common pin.

## Using it on a robot

- Read sixteen analog sensors, for example a line-follower array, through one ADC pin.
- Switch one sensor at a time and wait a moment for the signal to settle before sampling.
- Use the HC type with a 3.3 V logic supply within the 2 V to 6 V range.
