**The TPS22918 is a single-channel load switch with an N-channel MOSFET that passes up to 2 A continuous from a 1 V to 5.5 V input, with 52 mΩ typical on-resistance at 5 V and a rise time you set with a capacitor.** It lets a microcontroller power a sensor or module on and off from a GPIO. Figures are from the Texas Instruments TPS22918 datasheet SLVSD76C.

## What the datasheet promises

| Item | Datasheet value |
| --- | --- |
| Input voltage | 1 V to 5.5 V |
| Continuous current | 2 A maximum |
| On-resistance | 52 mΩ typical at VIN = 5 V; 53 mΩ at 3.3 V |
| Quiescent current | 8.3 µA typical at VIN = 3.3 V |
| Control | On/off input that works with GPIO signals of 1 V or higher |
| Rise time | Configurable with a capacitor on the CT pin, to limit inrush current |
| Quick output discharge | Adjustable |
| Temperature | Ambient −40 to 105 °C |
| Package | SOT-23-6 (DBV) |

A load switch is not a regulator: it passes the input voltage through, with a small drop, and the slow rise protects the supply from the surge of charging a large capacitor on the switched rail.

## Using it on a robot

- Cut power to a sensor, camera or radio module between readings to save battery, as the [TPS7A02](https://roboticsengineering.in/components/tps7a02-nanopower-ldo/) page does for the regulator.
- Choose the CT capacitor so the rail rises slowly enough to avoid a supply droop.
- Keep the switch within the 2 A limit, including start-up surges.
