# SPI TFT display shows a white screen: driver chip, pins and library setup

> Fix a TFT screen: pick the library driver that matches the chip, set the pin numbers in the setup file and power the backlight.

**Match the library driver to the chip on the display** (such as ST7735, ILI9341 or ST7789).

## What the message means

Different panels need different init sequences. The wrong driver gives a white or noisy screen.

## Fix it in this order

1. Read the driver chip name on the seller page or board.
2. Select that driver in the library setup file.
3. Set the pin numbers for CS, DC, RST, MOSI and SCK.
4. Connect the backlight pin to the supply.
5. Use 3.3 V logic on 3.3 V panels.
6. Try a lower SPI speed.

## Why it happens

A white or blank TFT screen usually means the code uses the wrong driver for the controller on your display, the pins in the library configuration do not match your wiring, or the display is not receiving 3.3 V logic.

Check the controller name on the display (for example ILI9341 or ST7789), set the same driver and pins in the library setup, wire CS, DC and RST correctly, and make sure the backlight pin is powered.

## If you see this, do this

| You see | Do this |
| --- | --- |
| White screen | Wrong driver or backlight only. |
| Colours swapped | Colour order setting. |
