The DRV8210 is a small H-bridge motor driver for one brushed DC motor, running from 1.65 V to 11 V with a 1.76 A peak output and a sleep mode under 84.5 nA. It takes 1.8 V, 3.3 V or 5 V logic and suits low-voltage battery robots and toys. It sits below the DRV8833 in current and above the bare transistor in convenience. Figures are from the Texas Instruments DRV8210 datasheet SLVSFY8B.

The peak figure is not a continuous rating. Check the datasheet thermal data for the current you can hold with your board layout. The family also includes the 280 mΩ DRV8212 and the 18 V DRV8220 for other needs.

Using it on a robot

  • Drive a small gearmotor from a single Li-ion cell or two to three AA cells.
  • Choose the PWM interface to drive speed and direction from two GPIO pins, or PH/EN to set direction on one pin and speed on the other.
  • Use the sleep mode on a battery robot that spends most of its time idle.
  • For a slightly different small driver, see the DRV8837.
